Mission

Mission
The Bulgarian Student Association aims to celebrate and preserve Bulgarian culture while fostering cross-cultural understanding through immersive events, education, and community engagement. We strive to create a welcoming space for Bulgarians and non-Bulgarians alike to learn, connect, and celebrate Bulgarian culture, history, traditions, and values.
We are a group of students at Boston University who want to educate others about Bulgarian culture and history while building a supportive community for Bulgarian students on campus. When some of us met by chance at BU, we discovered a strong shared interest in forming a space where Bulgarian students could connect and where others could learn more about Bulgaria’s unique culture and heritage.
For many of us, it was initially difficult to find other Bulgarians at BU and build a sense of community. This inspired us to establish a club so that future Bulgarian students do not have to struggle with finding support and connection as we did. Some of the founding members are international students from Bulgaria who have shared how challenging it can be to adapt to university life in the United States, especially during the first semester. Bulgaria has a distinct culture, social dynamic, and way of life, and adjusting to a new academic and cultural environment can often feel isolating.
Through this organization, we hope to create a welcoming and inclusive environment where Bulgarian students can build friendships, seek guidance, exchange experiences, and feel a sense of belonging from the beginning of their journey at Boston University. We also hope to connect students with a growing network of Bulgarian alumni who can offer mentorship, advice, and support. At the same time, the association will provide opportunities for the wider BU community to engage with Bulgarian culture through cultural events, discussions, celebrations, and educational activities.
